Every Dark Souls NPC questline step by step, with the missable points and the rewards, so you never lose a quest.
Oscar, Knight of Astora
The dying knight who frees you from your cell and sends you on your quest.
- After the first Asylum Demon escape, find him slumped in the courtyard and talk until he gives you the Estus Flask and the Undead Asylum F2 East Key.
- If you killed the Asylum Demon on the first encounter, he hands you the Big Pilgrim's Key instead of it dropping later.
- When you come back to the Asylum later he has turned hollow; kill him for the Crest Shield.
Crestfallen Warrior
A gloomy veteran sitting near the Firelink bonfire who hints at the two Bells of Awakening.
- Talk to him on arrival at Firelink Shrine for hints about the bells.
- After ringing the first bell and visiting the Depths, talk to him again; he says he is heading to New Londo.
- Once he leaves he turns hollow in New Londo Ruins near the first stairs; kill him there for his drop.
Petrus of Thorolund
A cleric who sells miracles and leads the Way of White covenant, but secretly plans to betray Reah.
- Talk to him at Firelink Shrine to receive a Copper Coin; you can join the Way of White covenant and buy miracles.
- Buy every miracle you need from him early: Heal, Seek Guidance, Force, Homeward and Great Heal Excerpt.
- After Reah and her companions leave for the Catacombs, Petrus later returns alone and eventually kills Reah if she is still at the Undead Parish.
- Kill Petrus once he returns (when you no longer need his shop) to keep Reah safe for her miracle shop.
Reah of Thorolund
A noble cleric who travels to the Catacombs with her two guards and can be rescued from the Tomb of the Giants.
- Talk to her in the Firelink Shrine cellar while her companions Vince and Nico stand guard.
- After you ring the first bell she leaves for the Catacombs.
- In the Tomb of the Giants, kill the hollowed Vince and Nico, then talk to her in the pit Patches kicks you into to receive Replenishment.
- She then moves to the Undead Parish church, where you can learn the Prayer gesture and buy miracles such as Great Heal, Magic Barrier and Wrath of the Gods.
- Buy what you need quickly: Petrus will kill her after a while unless you deal with him first.
Vince of Thorolund
One of Reah's two bodyguards. He goes hollow in the Tomb of the Giants.
- Talk to him at Firelink Shrine before Reah leaves; you will have to kill him as a hollow in the Tomb of the Giants to save her.
Nico of Thorolund
Reah's second bodyguard, who also turns hollow in the Tomb of the Giants.
- Talk to him at Firelink Shrine; later kill his hollow form in the Tomb of the Giants to reach Reah.
Anastacia of Astora
The silent Firekeeper of Firelink Shrine, locked in a cell below the bonfire. She reinforces your Estus Flask.
- Bring her Fire Keeper Souls to reinforce your Estus Flask at the Firelink bonfire.
- Knight Lautrec kills her after you ring the second bell unless you kill him first; the Firelink bonfire goes out.
- If she was killed, invade Lautrec in Anor Londo with the Black Eye Orb from her cell, take her soul back and use it at the bonfire to revive her.
- When the Lord Souls are placed, talk to her to receive full kindling of the Firelink bonfire.
Kingseeker Frampt
A huge primordial serpent who appears after both bells ring. He guides you to place the Lordvessel and trades items for souls.
- After ringing both Bells of Awakening, he appears beside the Firelink bonfire; he wants you to fetch the Lordvessel from Anor Londo.
- Talk to him with the Lordvessel to place it on the Firelink Altar; you can then warp between bonfires.
- Do not talk to him with the Lordvessel if you want Darkstalker Kaathe's path and the Darkwraith covenant.
- He swaps items for souls, which is handy for farming souls and titanite.
Solaire of Astora
The cheerful Warrior of Sunlight searching for his own sun. He is a summon for several bosses.
- Talk to him on the Undead Burg rampart past the Taurus Demon and say yes to get the White Sign Soapstone.
- Summon him for the Bell Gargoyles, Gaping Dragon and Ornstein and Smough fights.
- Meet him again at the Sunlight Altar, then in Anor Londo by the archer bonfire.
- Talk to him by the Demon Ruins bonfire near the Centipede Demon. He then heads for the bug room past the Lost Izalith shortcut.
- Kill the bug and take the Sunlight Maggot before he gets there; he survives and can be summoned for Gwyn in the Kiln.
- If not, he goes mad and attacks you in Lost Izalith; killing him gives his gear.
Undead Merchant (Male)
A cackling hollow merchant on the Undead Burg rooftops selling keys, tools and arrows.
- Buy the Residence Key, Bottomless Box and Repairbox from him. Killing him drops the Uchigatana and his stock.
Undead Merchant (Female)
A hollow woman in the aqueduct tower of Lower Undead Burg. Sells moss, Transient Curses and Homeward Bones.
Andre of Astora
The friendly blacksmith below the Undead Parish church. He upgrades and ascends weapons and sells the Crest of Artorias.
- Talk to him to learn the Hurrah! gesture and buy smithing boxes and the Crest of Artorias.
- Give him the Large Ember, Very Large Ember, Divine Ember, Large Divine Ember and Dark Ember to unlock more upgrade paths.
Knight Lautrec of Carim
A knight in golden armor locked in a cell in the Undead Parish. Grateful at first, he later murders the Firekeeper.
- Free him with the Mystery Key from his cell above the Parish chapel.
- Talk to him at Firelink Shrine to get a Sunlight Medal, and summon him for the Bell Gargoyles or Gaping Dragon.
- After the second bell he kills Anastacia; kill him at Firelink beforehand to save her (he drops the Ring of Favor and Protection).
- If he killed her, invade him in Anor Londo with the Black Eye Orb for the Ring of Favor and Protection, her soul and Humanity.
- After he dies, his Favor Set appears on the balconies in Ornstein and Smough's arena.
Oswald of Carim
The pardoner at the top of the Parish bell tower. He absolves sins and sells miracles, rings and the Book of the Guilty.
- Talk to him after ringing the first bell to learn the Well! What is it! gesture and buy from his shop.
Siegmeyer of Catarina
An onion-armored knight who keeps getting stuck. Following his quest gives several rewards and leads to Sieglinde.
- Talk to him in front of the Sen's Fortress gate before ringing the first bell.
- Meet him in Sen's Fortress by the boulder room and give him time to nap.
- In Anor Londo, kill the Silver Knights below the roof for him, then talk to receive the Tiny Being's Ring.
- At Firelink Shrine, answer yes to learn the Emit Force miracle.
- He turns up asleep on a swamp island in Blighttown; hand over three Purple Moss Clumps and he repays you with the Pierce Shield.
- In Lost Izalith, help him against the Chaos Eaters so he survives.
- If he ends that fight above half health, talk to Sieglinde at Firelink, then visit the first Ash Lake bonfire to see the end of their story and receive a Titanite Slab.
- If you fail, he dies in Lost Izalith; killing all Chaos Eaters before talking to him instead earns the Speckled Stoneplate Ring.
Sieglinde of Catarina
Siegmeyer's daughter, trapped in a crystal in the Duke's Archives garden while searching for her father.
- Kill the Golden Crystal Golem in the Duke's Archives garden to free her.
- Talk to her at Firelink Shrine.
- Answer yes when she asks about her father, both in the garden and at Firelink.
- Once Siegmeyer survives Lost Izalith, talk to her at Firelink again; she then heads to Ash Lake and gives you a Titanite Slab there.
Griggs of Vinheim
A sorcerer locked in a house in Lower Undead Burg. Freeing him lets you buy sorceries at Firelink.
- Open the barn in Lower Undead Burg with the Residence Key and free him.
- Talk to him at Firelink Shrine and buy sorceries (10 intelligence needed to trade).
- Free Big Hat Logan in Sen's Fortress so Griggs has someone to follow.
- If you do not buy all his stock before Logan leaves for the Duke's Archives, Griggs follows and turns hollow in Sen's Fortress; he drops the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring.
Big Hat Logan
A renowned sorcerer stuck in a cage in Sen's Fortress who becomes the main sorcery teacher.
- Free him from the cage in Sen's Fortress with the Cage Key.
- Buy his sorceries at Firelink Shrine (15 intelligence needed).
- Meet him again in the Duke's Archives prison, then in the Archives library after leaving the prison.
- Buy every sorcery; he then leaves, goes hollow in the room where you first met Seath, and drops his set when killed.
Rickert of Vinheim
A sorcerer-blacksmith shackled in a cell in New Londo Ruins. He ascends magic and enchanted weapons.
- Reach him by the stairs and the drop next to the Firelink elevator into New Londo; give him the Enchanted Ember and Large Magic Ember.
Laurentius of the Great Swamp
A pyromancer trapped in a barrel in the Depths. Once freed, he teaches pyromancy at Firelink Shrine.
- Roll into the barrels in the Depths butcher room to free him.
- At Firelink Shrine he gives a Pyromancy Flame, upgrades it and sells pyromancies.
- If you own a Chaos pyromancy and tell him where it came from, he leaves for Blighttown and turns hollow; buy Flash Sweat and Iron Flesh first.
Domhnall of Zena
A wandering merchant first met in the Depths after the Gaping Dragon. Sells the armor of slain bosses and NPCs.
- Talk to him in the Depths after the Gaping Dragon; learn the Joy gesture.
- He moves under the Firelink aqueduct after you get the Lordvessel and sells sets from bosses and NPCs you have killed.
Quelana of Izalith
Quelaag's sister, hidden in the Blighttown swamp. She upgrades your flame and sells pyromancies.
- She appears in the Blighttown swamp once you have a +10 Pyromancy Flame.
- Kill the Bed of Chaos while she is around and return to her for the Fire Tempest pyromancy.
Eingyi
An egg-carrying servant blocking the Daughter of Chaos. He sells Poison Mist and Toxic Mist once you are infested.
- Strike the illusory wall in Quelaag's Domain and answer yes when he asks if you want to serve.
- With 11+ intelligence he gives you a Pyromancy Flame and upgrades it.
- Get infested by an egg-head in Blighttown to buy Poison Mist and Toxic Mist.
Daughter of Chaos
Quelaag's blind sister, Firekeeper of the Daughter of Chaos bonfire and leader of the Chaos Servants.
- Wear the Old Witch's Ring to understand her (optional).
- Join the Chaos Servant covenant and offer Humanity; 30 opens the shortcut to Lost Izalith.
Alvina of the Darkroot Wood
A giant white cat on a ruined tower in Darkroot Garden who leads the Forest Hunters.
- Talk to her in the tower across the bridge to join the Forest Hunter covenant and get the Cat Covenant Ring.
Shiva of the East
A wandering foreign warrior who sells rare weapons to Forest Hunters in Blighttown.
- As a Forest Hunter, talk to him in Darkroot Garden; then meet him in Blighttown to learn the Look Skyward gesture and shop.
- Killing his bodyguard in Blighttown gives the Dark Wood Grain Ring.
Dusk of Oolacile
A princess from the past, freed from a crystal golem in Darkroot Basin. She teaches sorcery and opens the way to the DLC.
- Kill the Golden Crystal Golem in Darkroot Basin (reload until it appears) and say yes to her.
- Summon her through her sign in the basin to learn the Proper Bow gesture and buy sorceries.
- Her rescue lets the Darkroot Basin portal to the past open (AotA).
- After summoning her, her Antiquated Set appears near where the golem stood. Killing her drops the Crown of Dusk.
Crestfallen Merchant
A wary merchant on the roof of Sen's Fortress. Sells titanite and stoneplate rings.
Giant Blacksmith
The huge blacksmith of Anor Londo. Crafts boss soul weapons and lightning and crystal weapons.
- Give him the Crystal Ember for crystal upgrades; he also turns boss souls into unique weapons.
Darkmoon Knightess
The Firekeeper of the first Anor Londo bonfire. She wears the shape of a knight to serve Gwyndolin.
- Talk to her at the Anor Londo bonfire to reinforce your Estus Flask.
- If you kill Gwyndolin she turns on you; she drops a Fire Keeper Soul.
Gwynevere, Princess of Sunlight
Gwyn's daughter, who hands over the Lordvessel. In fact an illusion created by Gwyndolin.
- Defeat Ornstein and Smough, ride the lift and talk to her to receive the Lordvessel.
- Join the Princess's Guard covenant to get the Ring of the Sun Princess.
- Striking her dispels the illusion of Anor Londo; Darkmoon Blades will then hunt you.
Ingward
A sealer who guards the New Londo flood gates. He gives the Key to the Seal and sells sorcery and curses.
- Climb the chimney ladder in the house near the ghost bridges and talk to him for the Key to the Seal.
Darkstalker Kaathe
A primordial serpent in the Abyss who offers the Lord of Dark path and the Darkwraith covenant.
- After killing the Four Kings without having placed the Lordvessel through Frampt, talk to him in the Abyss.
- Join the Darkwraith covenant to receive the Dark Hand and help place the Lordvessel.
Patches the Hyena
A scheming scavenger who kicks you into a pit in the Tomb of the Giants, then opens a shop at Firelink.
- Talk to him by the pit in the Tomb of the Giants and let him kick you in.
- Return and forgive him for Twin Humanities.
- Meet him at Firelink Shrine; he sells miracles, Pinwheel's masks and his Crescent Axe and teaches the Prostration gesture.
Vamos
A skeleton blacksmith hidden deep in the Catacombs. Ascends fire and chaos weapons.
- Reach him past the spinning bridges; give him the Large Flame Ember and Chaos Flame Ember.
Snuggly
A crow on the Asylum roof nest who trades items for rarer ones.
- Drop items in the nest to swap them; many trades (Sunlight Maggot, Skull Lantern, Sack and more) give unique rewards.
Everlasting Dragon
An ancient stone dragon in Ash Lake who leads the Path of the Dragon.
- Talk to it at Ash Lake to join the Path of the Dragon and receive the Dragon Head Stone.
Witch Beatrice
A powerful NPC summon for the Moonlight Butterfly and Four Kings.
- Summon her for the Moonlight Butterfly; only then can she also be summoned for the Four Kings.
- After the Four Kings fall, her Witch Set and Beatrice's Catalyst can be picked up in the Valley of Drakes.
Iron Knight Tarkus
An NPC summon in the Sen's Fortress roof tower for the Iron Golem.
- Summon him from the tower across from the Iron Golem fog gate. His remains and the Black Iron Set lie in Anor Londo below the Painted World canvas.
Maneater Mildred
A cannibal invader in Blighttown who later becomes a summon for Quelaag.
- Let her invade you in human form near the Blighttown swamp and kill her for the Butcher Knife.
Knight Kirk
A thorny invader who appears in the Depths, Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith while you are human.
- Kill him in the Depths, the Demon Ruins and finally Lost Izalith; he drops his gear and later his armor is sold.
Paladin Leeroy
A paladin summon for Pinwheel who later invades in the Tomb of the Giants.
- Summon him for Pinwheel, then defeat his invasion in the Tomb of the Giants for Sanctus and Grant.
Elizabeth
The giant mushroom guardian of Princess Dusk. She sells sorceries and gives mushrooms.
- Talk to her at Oolacile Sanctuary and answer yes to her question.
- After Manus falls, talk to her again for three Elizabeth's Mushrooms.
Marvelous Chester
A fellow time traveller who trades in Royal Wood and later invades in Oolacile Township.
- Talk to him at the bridge in Royal Wood and answer yes; buy what you need, then defeat his invasion in Oolacile Township.
Hawkeye Gough
One of Gwyn's four knights, locked in a tower in Oolacile. He can shoot Kalameet down for you.
- Open his door with the Crest Key and talk twice, answering yes, so he grounds Black Dragon Kalameet.
- Buy the Hello Carving and Thank you Carving from him.
- After killing Kalameet, return to receive Gough's Greatbow.
Lord's Blade Ciaran
Gwyn's assassin who mourns Artorias at his grave.
- After Knight Artorias, reload and find her at his grave; give her his soul, or kill her for her set and daggers.
Sif
Sif as a pup, trapped by Humanity Spirits in the Chasm of the Abyss.
- Save him in the Chasm of the Abyss; he can be summoned for Manus, and the Great Grey Wolf Sif fight gets a new scene.
