Undead Parish

A fortified church district holding the first Bell of Awakening, Andre the blacksmith and the paths to Darkroot Garden and Sen's Fortress.

  • Bell Gargoyles: A second gargoyle joins halfway through, so deal damage fast. Cut the first one's tail for the Gargoyle Tail Axe. Solaire can be summoned.

  • Balder Side Sword: Rare drop from Balder Knights carrying the Balder Shield (Undead Parish, Sen's Fortress).
  • Gargoyle Tail Axe: Cut off the tail of a Bell Gargoyle on the Undead Parish roof or a gargoyle in Anor Londo.
  • Blacksmith Hammer: Only obtainable by killing Andre of Astora.
  • Halberd: In front of the church entrance in Undead Parish.
  • Gargoyle's Halberd: Random drop from the Bell Gargoyles or the Anor Londo gargoyles.
  • Gargoyle's Shield: Rare drop from the shielded gargoyles (Bell Gargoyles, Anor Londo gargoyles).
  • Knight Shield: On a corpse past the fog gate in Undead Parish, watched by a Balder Knight.
  • Fang Boar Helm: Fairly common drop from Fang Boars, like the one in Undead Parish.
  • Gargoyle Helm: Random drop from the Bell Gargoyles; the last Anor Londo gargoyle drops it if you still lack it.
  • Lightning Spear: Gift for joining the Warriors of Sunlight at the Altar of Sunlight in the Undead Parish.
  • Great Lightning Spear: Reward for reaching rank 1 in the Warriors of Sunlight (10 Sunlight Medals).
  • Sunlight Spear: Offer the Soul of Gwyn, Lord of Cinder at the Altar of Sunlight once you are rank 1 or higher.
  • Karmic Justice: Buy from Oswald of Carim in the Undead Parish bell tower for 40,000 souls.
  • Hurrah!: Learned by talking to Blacksmith Andre in the Undead Parish.
  • Well! What is it!: Learned by talking to Oswald of Carim in the Undead Parish bell tower.
  • Praise the Sun: Learned at the Altar of Sunlight in the Undead Parish (no need to join).
  • Mystery Key: On the rafters behind a ladder in the room beneath the Undead Parish boar.
  • Basement Key: Just past the large gate on the steps up to the Undead Church.
  • Book of the Guilty: Buy from Oswald of Carim in the Undead Parish for 1,000 souls.
  • Fire Keeper Soul: On the altar in the Undead Church, guarded by a Berenike Knight.

Walkthrough: Undead Parish

  • A Black Knight waits in the tower near the entrance; beating it gives a Titanite Chunk.
  • Kill the Fang Boar in the main courtyard, or dodge it until it gets stuck.
  • Pick up the Mystery Key (it frees a prisoner soon) and the soul resting on the beam.
  • Defeat the armored knight in the church for the Knight Shield.
  • Get the Basement Key, pull the lever to raise the gate and grab the Halberd.
  • Rest at the Undead Church bonfire above Andre's forge.
  • Talk to Andre of Astora to learn the Hurrah! gesture. Buy what you need, such as the Repairbox, Weapon Smithbox, Armor Smithbox and the Crest of Artorias (20,000 souls), and upgrade your weapons.
  • Talk to Siegmeyer of Catarina, waiting in front of the Sen's Fortress gate.
  • Kill the Berenike Knight in the church and pick up the Fire Keeper Soul.
  • Optional: bring the soul to Anastacia of Astora at Firelink Shrine to reinforce your Estus Flask.
  • Kill the Channeler on the church balcony and all the hollows around it.
  • Collect the soul and Humanity, then use the Mystery Key to free Knight Lautrec of Carim from his cell.
  • Defeat the Bell Gargoyles on the church roof.
  • Solaire of Astora's summon sign is just outside the boss fog.
  • If you freed Lautrec and talked to him at Firelink Shrine, his summon sign appears on the ledge past the first ladder.
  • Cut the tail of the first Bell Gargoyle before the second one arrives to get the Gargoyle Tail Axe.
  • Climb the tower and ring the first Bell of Awakening for its achievement.
  • Talk to Oswald of Carim at the top of the tower. Learn the Well! What is it! gesture and shop: Purging Stones, Indictment, Book of the Guilty, Karmic Justice, Bloodbite Ring and Poisonbite Ring.
  • Optional co-op: help others beat the gargoyles (around levels 15–25).
  • Return to the Hellkite bridge, unlock the basement door with the Basement Key and head down into Lower Undead Burg.

Walkthrough: Darkroot Basin

  • Warp or walk to the Undead Parish and use the bonfire over Andre's forge.
  • Hand the Large Ember to Andre of Astora; it unlocks higher upgrades for your weapons.
  • Kill the Titanite Demon by the Darkroot Garden gate for a Demon Titanite.
  • In Darkroot Garden, find the bonfire hidden behind a fake wall and unseal the great door with the Crest of Artorias. Leave it for later.
  • Head down to Darkroot Basin.
  • Climb into the watchtower and kill Havel the Rock for Havel's Ring.
  • Equip the Rusted Iron Ring for the lake.
  • Down by the lake the Crystal Golems come first; the Hydra then yields a Dragon Scale and the Dusk Crown Ring.
  • Pick up the Knight Set.
  • Kill the Golden Crystal Golem at the far end of the lake. Reload or leave the area if it is not there yet.
  • Talk to Dusk of Oolacile, who was trapped inside, and answer yes.
  • Summon Dusk with her sign near the Hydra's lake. Learn the Proper Bow gesture and buy sorceries or her catalyst.
  • Return to where the Golden Crystal Golem stood and take the Antiquated Set.
  • By the waterfall a ladder goes up, then a second one leads to the bridge.
  • On the far side of that bridge lies Darkroot Garden.
